Leatherman Sidekick Review
The Leatherman Sidekick is another entry level multitool from Leatherman. It is quite similar to Leatherman Wingman with only few differences in inclusive tools. The main difference between Sidekick and Wingman is that the Sidekick has a saw whereas Wingman has a pair of scissors. The size of Leatherman Sidekick is perfect as a pocket tool. It is light, compact and very handy. It is a little bit smaller than a full size multitools like Leatherman Wave, Surge, Charge and the like. It is stainless steel and has a great finish. All tools are sturdy and easy to gain access and open and are very well constructed.
Just like the Wingman, the Leatherman Sidekick has spring pliers. Some people did not find it very useful, but in my own opinion, this is quite useful, especially if you are holding something on pliers or cutting some wires. When you need to release and engage the pliers repeatedly while turning the material to cut, the spring action makes it much easier to do such task. Also, the pliers are strong enough to hold tightly. Each tools in Leather Sidekick are very easy to access and opens easily. The knife can be accessed while the tool is closed as this is external design. The knife is extremely sharp and stays sharp for number of uses. The knife includes locking mechanism for safety while on use. There are various options to carry this tool, such as lanyard ring, pocket clip, carabiner, and leather sheath.
Overall, this tool is very useful for everyday use and great value for money. There are other more expensive models and bigger tools and more tools selections compared to Leatherman Sidekick but it all depends on your usage and requirements. The Leatherman Sidekick is just perfect for light everyday utility use for home, road and camping. Ideally it is quite handy to have it in your car glove box compartment.
